"WEBMARKETING
TIPS"
Website Blunders!
As a webmaster and marketing
professional, I've been striving (like just
about everyone reading this) to make my website
not only a great money-maker, but also a place
fellow netizens bookmark and return to.
Hopefully, they will spread my URL to the world
– Great Goals! But while I've been working at
it, I've noticed something odd amongst some of
my brethren: the tendency to RELY on freebies to
design, promote, and market their websites. Why?
Personally, I don't believe
anything is really free – There's usually a
catch, a link, a shoulder rub, or annoying
windows popping up everywhere asking me for my
name or to switch to a different hosting
service. Please don't misunderstand, on my
website I too offer information and graphics as
freebies. The difference? I built my website
with little or no freebies! I learned early on,
if you want to generate income, build a website
that shows you're serious and that you mean
business! Remember, you want people coming back!
Now, if your intent is to build a
fantastic net-based business, and you want to
portray a professional image (but you can't
afford a designer), spend a little money! You
may be surprised to learn that a first-class web
site may not cost you as much as you may think.
I've always been taught "You Get What You Pay
For!" So, my question is this: If you're not
paying for it, what are you really getting?
FREE website hosting:
Personally, I would never display my net-based
business using a free host provider. Since you
aren't paying for their service you have very
few rights. If the site host decides to place a
half-dozen pop-up windows on your site, you may
not have a say! I have visited some wonderful
websites that were hosted by the freebies, but I
didn't stay long. The pop-ups were driving me
mad! Question: Do people actually own the
information placed on free servers?
Banners:
Banners are great in their place, but not all
over your website! Question: If all banners were
deleted from your website, what would you have
left?
Symmetry:
Take the time to make your website symmetrical.
Have you ever visited a website and soon
departed with crossed-eyes! Look at your site.
Does the left side of center equal the right
side of center? Are your graphics about the same
size throughout? Is the information you're
providing straightforward and arranged in
columns? Have someone else look at your site,
and ask him if it pleases visually.
Money:
A touchy subject for some, If you're creative,
you won't have to spend much, but do spend some!
Enough Said.
Signature:
Very important, but a lot of people still don't
use it! Add a signature to your e-mails. This
"free" promotion alone will do a lot for
spreading the news about your website!
